「七草祭」　七草の鉢植えが置いてありました。

　春の七草はせり、なずな、ごぎょう（ははこぐさ）、はこべら（はこべ）、ほとけのざ（こおにたびらこ）、すずな（かぶ）、すずしろ（だいこん）です。（写真1）
The seven spring herbs are SERI (Japanese parsley), NAZUNA (shepherd’s purse), GOGYO (HAHAKOGUSA) (cotton weed), HAKOBERA (HAKOBE) (chickweed), HOTOKENOZA (KONITABIRAKO) (henbit), SUZUNA (KABU) (turnip), SUZUSHIRO (DAIKON) (Japanese radish). (Picture 1)

　1月7日に七草粥を食べると、風邪などの病気の予防になると言われています。
It is said that eating NANAKUSA-GAYU (rice porridge with seven spring edible herbs) on January 7th prevents illnesses such as colds.

　この習慣は平安時代（794-1191）に中国から日本に伝わりました。
　This custom was introduced to Japan from China in the Heian era (794-1191).

「七草祭」　大釜で美味しいお粥が炊かれていました。

　護国神社では毎年、敬神婦人会の人々によって大釜で七草粥が炊かれます。（写真2）

　一列に並んで100円で七草粥を頂きました。
I waited in a line and got NANAKUSA-GAYU for 100 yen.

　多くの人がテントを張ったテーブルで暖かい七草粥を食べていました。（写真4，5）

　博多では粥だけではなく、味噌汁にも七草を入れて食べる習慣もあるようです。
In Hakata, some people add NANAKUSA into MISO-SHIRU (soybean paste soup).
