「節分祭－東長寺」　東長寺の正門です。

　東長寺は弘法大師が創建した最古の寺といわれています。（写真1）
　Tocho-ji Temple is said to be the oldest temple that Kobo-Daishi built. (Picture 1)

　永禄・天正（16世紀中頃）の兵火に焼け荒廃しました。
Battle fires burnt and ruined it in the Eiroku era and the Tensho era (in mid-16th century.)

　二代目福岡藩主黒田忠之が再興し、菩提所としました。
　The second Fukuoka Clan Master, Tadayuki Kuroda rebuilt Tocho-ji Temple, and made it his family temple.

　1992年（平成4年）には、座高約11mの木造仏としては日本最大の「福岡大仏」も完成しました。
　In 1992 (Heisei 4th yr), the biggest wooden Buddhist statue in Japan, the “FUKUOKA DAIBUTSU” measuring 11 meters in height, was completed.

　博多の豆まきといえば東長寺と櫛田神社が有名です。
Both Tocho-ji Temple and Kushida Shrine are famous for MAME-MAKI, the Bean-Throwing Ceremony, in Hakata.

　東長寺の豆まきの歴史が櫛田神社より長いようです。
　The history of the Bean-Throwing Ceremony in Tocho-ji Temple is said to be longer than that in Kushida Shrine.

　東長寺が室町時代（1392-1573）より続いた豆まきを1946年（昭和21年）に1年間だけ休みました。
　Except for an interruption in 1946 (Showa 21st yr), Tocho-ji Temple has held the Bean-Throwing Ceremony continuously since the Muromachi era (1392-1573).

　その年に櫛田神社が豆まきを始めました。
In that year, Kushida Shrine started the Bean-Throwing Ceremony.

　節分には本堂では護摩が焚かれます。
　During SETSUBUN, GOMA (special Buddhism fire) is burnt in the main temple.

「節分祭－東長寺」　知名士などによる豆まきです。

　境内の特設舞台で地元名士や年男、年女などによる豆まきが行われます。（写真2）
　Local celebrities, TOSHI-OTOKO, and TOSHI-ONNA (the lucky bean throwers who were born under the sign of the Chinese Zodiac of the current year) throw beans on the scaffold in the temple yard. (Picture 2)

「節分祭－東長寺」　留学生による扮装です。

　留学生が七福神や鬼の扮装をして祭りを盛り上げていました。（写真3）
Overseas students livened up the ceremony in SHICHI-FUKU-JIN (the seven lucky gods) and ONI (a demon) costumes. (Picture 3)

　近所の幼稚園の子供達と楽しそうに遊んでいる姿が微笑ましかったです。
　My heart was warmed to see them playing with kindergarten children nearby.
