　十日恵比須神社は博多区東公園にあり、400年以上歴史のある神社です。
　Toka-Ebisu Shrine is in Higashi Park, Hakata Ward, and it has more than 400 years of history.

　七福神の中の恵比寿様と大黒様を祭っています。
This shrine is dedicated to EBISU-SAMA and DAIKOKU-SAMA of SHICHI-FUKU-JIN (the Seven Lucky Gods).

「十日恵比須」　粋なおじいさんでした。

　恵比須祭は1月の8日から１１日まで開催されます。（写真１）
　EBISU-MATSURI is held from January 8th to the 11th. (Picture 1)

　初日は初えびす、9日は宵えびす、10日は正体祭と呼ばれる本えびす、そして最後の日が残りえびすです。
　The first day is called HATSU-EBISU, the 9th is called YOI-EBISU, the 10th is called SHOTAISAI (HON-EBISU), and the last day is called NOKORI-EBISU.

　商売繁盛を祈願するほとんどの博多商人達はこの祭りに訪れます。
Almost all the Hakata merchants visit this festival to pray for the prosperity of their business.

　外から参拝するだけでなく、神殿に上がってお払いを受けることができます。
　Not only do people pay homage outside the shrine, but people can also enter the main shrine building to receive purification.

　そして、別席で直会（なおらかい）に出ることもできます。
And they can join in NAORA-KAI in a different room.

　直会では一抱えもある大きな器でお茶を飲みます。
　At NAORA-KAI, people drink tea in a big teacup which people can barely hold with both of their arms

　御神酒や蛤のすまし汁を頂き、福引きをします。
　Also at NAORA-KAI, people drink sacred SAKE, have clear clam soup, and draw in a lottery.

　最後に「恵比須手」という独特の手一本を入れます。
At the end of the meeting, people make an ‘EBISU-TE’, a unique lucky EBISU clap.

　「いよ！」と両手を前にすくい上げて鯛を抱える形をとります。
　Saying ‘Iyo’, they clap their hands once as if they scooped up a sea bream with both of their hands.

「十日恵比須」　福引きです。

　福引きは境内でもすることができます。（写真2）
　A lottery is also held in the precinct. (Picture 2)

　「大当たりぃー！」と威勢よく当たりくじを読み上げる声が響いていました。
　The precinct was filled with lively shouts announcing prizes: ‘O-ATARI!’.

　私も家族と長い間並んで福引きをして、日めくりと名物の福笹、「さげもん」を頂きました。
　My family and I waited for a long time in order to draw lotteries, and we got a daily calendar and ‘SAGEMON’, a famous FUKU-SASA (lucky bamboo decoration).

「十日恵比須」　あでやかな博多芸者の「徒歩詣り」です。

　何と言っても人気があるのは、9日博多芸者衆が島田髪のお座敷姿で詣でる華やかな「徒歩詣り（かちまいり）」です。（写真3）
　KACHI-MAIRI on the 9th is the most popular event of all: the parade of Hakata GEISHA dressed in a traditional GEISHA wig and formal GEISHA KIMONO. (Picture 3)

　とてもきれいな芸者さんや、昔きれいだった芸者さんに、息子は目をパチクリとさせていました。
My son was surprised to see very beautiful GEISHA and elder GEISHA.

　もうひとつの楽しみは400件も並んだ露天です。
To see as many as 400 stalls is also a lot of fun.

　ほとんどの人々は「さげもん」を露天で買って帰ります。
　Most people buy ‘SAGEMON’at the stalls and go home.
