［第８２回全国高校野球選手権大会決勝と閉会式］
[The 82nd National High School Baseball Tournament Finals And The Closing Ceremony]

甲子園球場のタイガースホームグランドであると同時に
高校野球の会場でもあります。
The National High School Baseball Tournament is held at the Koshien Baseball Stadium,
which is also the Tigers' home ground.

２０世紀最後の高校野球、第８２回全国高校野球選手権の決勝戦を見てきました。
I went to see the finals of the 82nd National High School Baseball Tournament,
which was the last Tournament in the 20th century.

和歌山県代表の智弁和歌山高校は、第７９回大会以来３年ぶりに決勝へ進みました。
Chiben Wakayama High School, the representative of Wakayama Prefecture,
played in the finals after an interval of 3 years since the 79th Tournament.

千葉県代表の東海大浦安高校は初めての決勝戦です。
Tokaidai Urayasu High School, the representative of Chiba Prefecture,
reached the finals for the first time.

智弁和歌山が１塁側、東海大浦安が３塁側でした。
Chiben Wakayama was on the first-base side of the stadium,
and Tokaidai Urayasu was on the third-base side of the stadium.

深紅の優勝旗をかけて熱戦は１３時１分に始まりました。
The exciting game for the scarlet pennant started at 13:01.





球場近くのいつもはタイガースグッズを扱うお土産物屋さんも、
この時期高校野球一色です。
The souvenir shops around the baseball stadium usually sell Tigers' goods,
but during this time, they are full of High School Baseball souvenirs.





甲子園球場のタイガースショップも期間中は高校野球の記念品を販売します。
The Tigers' Shops at the Koshien Baseball Stadium also sell High School Baseball souvenirs

出場校の名前のついたお決まりのペナントもありました。
Triangle flags with participating school names are always a constant.





８回の表の智弁和歌山の猛反撃が始まりました。
この回一気に５点を取りました。
Chiben Wakayama staged a five-run rally in the bottom of the 8th inning.





東海大浦安の最後の打者、中村選手が遊ゴロに倒れました。
The last batter for Tokaidai Urayasu, rolled out a grounder.

智弁和歌山の優勝の瞬間です。
At this moment, Chiben Wakayama came out top in the Tournament.

マウンドの山野投手の元にナインが走って集まりました。
The Chiben Wakayama players ran over to Pitcher Yamano on the mound.





抱き合って喜ぶ智弁和歌山ナインと、うなだれる東海浦和ナインが対照的でした。
The nine Chiben Wakayama players were embracing each other excitedly,
but, in contrast, the nine Tokaidai Urayasu players were dejected.

どちらを応援していたわけでもありませんが、胸が熱くなりました。
Both teams weren't my favorites, but I was moved to see them.





喜びに胸ふるわせながら智弁和歌山の選手達が校歌を歌いました。
The Chiben Wakayama players were singing their school song joyfully.





応援をしてくれた人々に挨拶する智弁和歌山の選手達です。
The Chiben Wakayama players thanked their supporters.

Cの人文字がどうしてもカープのマークに見えてしまいました。
The human letter "C" looked like the symbol mark of the Carp
(a professional baseball team in Hiroshima) to me.





東海大浦安の選手は３塁側の応援団に深々と一礼をしました。
The Tokaidai Urayasu players gave a deep bow to the supporters on the third side.

３度もリードしましたが、智弁和歌山の猛打の前に破れてしまいました。
They lead three times, but Chiben Wakayama's hard-hitting defeated them.





白い服装のブラスバンドが入場しました。
The brass band in white entered the ground.





大会会長の朝日新聞社社長から、智弁和歌山の堤野主将へ、
深紅の優勝旗が手渡されました。
The president of the Asahi Newspapers, the Tournament Chairman,
handed the scarlet pennant to the captain of Chiben Wakayama.





続いて優勝の盾が送られました。
The presentation of a championship shield followed.





東海大浦安の主将が準優勝の盾を受け取り、列に戻りました。
The captain of Tokaidai Urayasu went back to the team with the runner-up shield.





国旗と大会旗を降ろすためスコアボードの方向へ走る選手達です。
The players were running toward the scoreboard
in order to lower the Japanese national flag and the tournament flag.

観客は帽子を脱ぎ、起立しました。
The audience stood up and took off their hats.





旗を降ろす間、観客から「タイガースに入ってくれぇ〜！」と声がかかっていました。
While they were lowering the flags, one of the audience shouted to them,
"Join the Tigers, please!"

「そうだ、そうだ」とか「待ってるぞっ！」と他の観客も叫んでいました。
Some others shouted, "That's it!" and "We are waiting!"





再びホームベースの方に戻って行く両チームの選手達です。
The players were going back to homebase.





優勝旗を手に、そしてメダルを胸に行進が始まりました。
They started to march with a pennant and medals on their chests.

胸を張り、手を大きく振って、元気の良い智弁和歌山の選手達。
The Chiben Wakayama players were throwing their chests out,
as they swung their arms high.

そしてややうつむきながら歩く東海大浦安の選手達。
The Tokaidai Urayasu players were marching and drooping their heads a little.

両校の選手達に惜しみない拍手が送られました。
The audience applauded both teams enthusiastically.





座るところがなかなかみつからないほど、ほぼ満員の甲子園でした。
The Koshien Baseball Stadium was full of people.
we could hardly find seats.

５万２千人の人が訪れたそうです。
Reportedly, 52000 people were in the stadium.

気温は３１度で暑かったですが、思い切って見に行って良かったです。
It was very hot, 31℃, but I was contented with the game.

感動的な決勝戦でした。
These finals were very impressive.

応援していた福岡代表の柳川高校も兵庫代表の育英高校も
決勝には残れなかったのは残念です。
Regrettably my favorite teams, Yanagawa High School from Fukuoka
and Ikue High School from Hyogo couldn't play in the finals.

来年こそ！
I am looking forward to the next tournament.
